HISTORY

Auckland, NZ born Steve Amosa grew up between two separate worlds of music when his family moved to Australia in 1986 at age 10: His family’s deep ties to his Samoan/Christian heritage and exposure to other genres found in his newly adopted country.

As a twelve year old Steve describes 'accidentally' falling into the role of front man and lead singer/guitarist of his family band with dad and three brothers performing at local Samoan community functions and fundraisers. This experience would be instrumental in his development as he naturally progressed to fronting bands with his school mates. After being introduced to jazz, funk, rock, music theatre, folk and classical he felt a little more ‘cultured’ and immediately loved the idea of performing a wide variety of styles as it was an “important way to be inclusive of everyone present at a public performance”

During the early 90’s while still at school Steve began performing at piano bars with school mate Adam Sofo on piano and instantly fell in love with the intimate setting of the ‘Acoustic Sessions’. He then formed TuchaSoul with brother Rae and started to make some waves in the Canberra music scene. A third member of the TuchaSoul family would later join them in Steve’s eldest daughter Kirrah, and together really created a buzz around town which continues today with second eldest daughter Lahni joining the band.

Steve then turned his hand to writing and released a self titled TuchaSoul album in 2003 to a sold out launch at the Canberra Southern Cross club and enjoyed some airtime on local radio stations.

In 2008 Steve was selected by vocal instructor to the stars Seth Riggs to head to Hollywood where he performed on stage with legendary producers Rory Kaplan & Patrick Leonard. Whilst in the States he gained a real appreciation for musical theatre after meeting with Shoshana Bean at a musical theatre workshop and came back with a new desire to get involved with musical theatre. This lead to a few local shows including FreeRain’s Pro-Am production of ‘Wicked’ where Steve racked up rave reviews and a CAT nomination for playing the ‘Wizard’ along side daughter Kirrah who played the role of Elphaba

Steve’s continual pursuit of improving his craft saw him fulfil a childhood dream of singing the classic Aria ‘Nessun Dorma’ with the National Capital Orchestra lead by award winning conductor Leonard Weiss

During 2015 - 2018 Steve continued to showcase his versatility working on various projects including studio session work, writing for musical theatre, vocal coach and touring vocal director of the Ministry of Sound Orchestrated 2018 Australian Tour

His passion remains performing and 2019 will see more ‘Acoustic Sessions’, performing with his new ‘Steve Amosa Band’, teaming up again with Adam Sofo to work on a new corporate tribute show plus hitting the studios and working on a new album so be sure to following his social media accounts and stay up to date.
